Language: rhythm and phonology, the imperative, the daily lexicon: night, day, home, beautiful, ripe, deadly, tarantula, banana, work, stack, and the figures: six-foot, seven-foot bunch, etc.. Banana Boat Song is a traditional folk song calypso, Jamaican workers in the banana industry. His rhythmic melody and chorus are very famous and easy to learn. The best-known version is by Harry Belafonte in 1956. The song evokes the dockers who work the night (Work all night) and load bananas on boats (Stack banana). Diets are sometimes large and heavy (Lift 6-foot, 7-foot, 8-foot bunch), and can hide hazards such as dangerous tarantula (Hide the deadly black tarantula). The day finally tip (Daylight come): the work is completed and the men want the accounts to be made (Come, Mr. Tally Man, tally me bananas) to return home (We want go home). Born in the USA in Harlem, of Jamaican origin, Harry Belafonte is a musician, actor and political activist. Children from 1935 to 1939, he lives in Abu Qir, a Jamaican village. During the Second World War, he served in the U.S. Navy. "King of Calypso" has popularized the musical style of the Caribbean. Civil rights and humanitarian causes, he was ambassador to UNICEFdepuis 1987. Very quickly, students can sing the refrain Day O, and then want to go home (shaped to make the connection and not over-emphasize the "to" from "want to"). Explain "a bunch of bananas": one banana, banana Two, a bunch of bananas (possibly indicate that it also says "a bunch of flowers"). In a second step, we select groups of words to work understanding, pronunciation and repetition. For example, Daylight come, work all night / we drink of rum, stack banana / Till the Morning Comes, Mr. Tally Man come. The teacher divides students into two rounds, one inside the other. The two rounds turn in opposite directions from each other in singing the refrain. Students sing and act out in front of their partners to the first stanza and then move on "Daylight come and we want go home" to meet up for another student for which they mimic the result, etc.. Students are asked to remember the song and repeat it at home. They can teach themselves to their brothers and sisters, their parents, so they will remember until the next meeting.Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) is a Jamaican mento. The best-known version of this song is sung by Harry Belafonte. It is often cited as an example of calypso while mento and calypso are two distinct styles. The song speaks of dockworkers unloading bananas at night from a boat - the day arrives, the work is completed and the men want the accounts to be made to return home. The first record is that of singer Edric Connor Trinidad with his band "The Caribbeans" in 1952 on the album Songs From Jamaica; the song it called Light Of Day [1]. It is also recorded by folk singer Louise Bennett of Jamaica in 1954. In 1956, Irving Burgie and William Attaway write a version of the lyrics, replay the same year by Harry Belafonte. This version is the best known and was # 5 in Billboard's ranking in 1957. She became the flagship song from Harry Belafonte.
