Betty Beauty

Surely this morning you looked in the mirror to wash your face, brush teeth, fix hair, makeup ... All we want to be beautiful. Who wants an ugly duckling or a "Beast"? All we look for beauty, in fact, from small we have learned, through many channels, that the beautiful is linked with happiness, kindness, success, and greater acceptance by others. Before the ugliness many behave with intolerance, contempt, foul trial. We women, and mothers of girls, we know much about it. Since we were little we always taught that we should dress well and have good presence. It has always been important to be beautiful. Looking in the mirror today, I remembered so many stories .. I remembered primarily of children's stories. Many "stories"!, My mother. Undoubtedly, the tales we were taught really values education as kindness, responsibility, commitment and solidarity. However, some of us did much damage mainly to women. From a gender perspective, some stories preach machismo. I refer to the princess who has to be pretty, with her silk dress, with crimson lips, her hair sleek, to await the arrival of her prince. The princesses, always beautiful, blond, fair-skinned, have always been passive, sustained, duped, controlled, victims, the "poor little" waiting for a prince to save them and marry her, and so happiness would eternal. I think many stories we imprisoned for years in contexts discriminatory, prejudice and racism. Why are the witches, bad, silly, mediocre are always ugly? Is ugliness a profile determinant of evil?. Maybe that's why I am a fan of Shrek, the green ogre and his bride, Princess Fiona, looking horrible, which has no choice but to live in solitude in a cabin in the middle of a forest, and therefore are be converted into a hard, cold, and resists even accept the friendship of a donkey. Shrek causes a change in mentality, makes us see another side of ugliness, and suggests that beauty is not a determining factor for falling in love. However, when it seemed that Shrek had opened the door for changes in values in this sense, it seems that again we are doomed to re-hear the story. Betty la Fea, Secretary ugly television regains the ugly duckling story only after it becomes a beautiful swan is accepted by its environment. Ideally, the Ugly Betty star was not for their appearance and themselves to be intelligent and sensitive. The world, people, values, change. The stories also. And even though some are still reluctant to value women and their rights, I think many families already have certain criteria when telling stories to their children. Her daughters are likely to have other perspectives and purposes in life than just being a woman or princess. If you like, you can be beautiful, but is first for our mirrors and our eyes. I think it makes us evil ugly, though not necessarily outside. The beauty is goodness on the other hand, what happens is that beauty is not just a pretty face.
