Caron

The Caron, Hacek [pronounced jáchec] or anticircunflejo, is a diacritic () created in the fifteenth century by Jan Hus to simplify writing Czech. Is placed above certain letters, such as the c, s and z, especially in the alphabet latinoslavo, which usually represents some form of consonant palatalization. Its form is that of an inverted circumflex. This sign is found in the Slovene šumniki: ?, š, ž. In Czech and Slovak are usually replaced by an apostrophe when the letter diacritic on to be placed has a bottom bar, the letter that it is a single character (T, D, L) and a sequence t, dol followed by an apostrophe typo. Czech is also used on the letter r (r), representing a fricative twang characteristic of that language, and the vocal and (e), the latter representing the palatalization of the preceding consonant or a glide collation palatal. Roughly one can say that the notes Hacek palatal sound character represented, as opposed to its pair without hook. For example, s is pronounced roughly like s American Spanish, while š is pronounced like the English sh.
