Fenix is the codename for a GNU project which aims to create a free compiler for a scripting language derived from one created by Hammer Technologies for Game Development Suite "DIV Games Studio." However, some features have been added which made it incompatible with many games scheduled with DIV. Fenix is an interpreted language focused on the development of video games in two dimensions. Its main feature, inherited from DIV is the pseudo-parallel programming, that is to say, it allows designers to program the various processes (enemies, characters, etc..) Separately, taking care of the engine synchronize. This makes the development of several video games much easier. Most of the devices is now based on SDL. This makes the Fenix project truly portable on various systems. Other features include full support for 2D (stretching, transparencies, blendops ...), in 16 bpp color, sound (ogg, mod, it, s3m, wav), support for joystick mode 7 and extensions via DLL. Fenix is primarily a language very simple and powerful. It is a very good programming tool for beginners and professionals. The project is currently being completely rewritten, and the bare nucleus to which other functions can be linked. In this way, all the graphics or sound libraries can be linked to this core, leveraging its programming device pseudo-parallel. This compiler (named Bennu) more optimized but also more complicated to use is fully compatible with the interpreter of Fenix 0.92a. Fenix is presented as a software through a console. There are various IDEs available, the most popular FlameBirds2. Many other IDEs can be easily adapted for use.
