Joey New York

Jeffrey Ross Hyman, aka Joey Ramone, (New York, USA, May 19, 1951 - ibid., April 15, 2001) was an American musician, co-founder and vocalist of Ramones since its formation in 1974 until its dissolution in 1996. Influenced musically by his mother, heard since childhood groups like The Who and The Stooges. Initially it was the drummer for the band, and later on the recommendation of Tommy Ramone becomes the voice of the group. It was called "the heart and soul" of the band and was responsible for the ballads and love songs. CJRamone called him the "hippie of the group." I loved the name "Montserrat." Joey measured 1.98 m in height, was established ectomorphic and his hair long and straight, black, which obscured his face. Moreover, it was left-handed, suffered from a pronounced myopia and suffered an obsessive-compulsive disorder, which greatly influenced the time to develop their sensitivity and creativity that feature implemented in later compositions like "The KKK Took My Baby Away" "She's a Sensation." Joey did not talk to her guitarist, Johnny Ramone, for almost 20 years. This rivalry started by ideological differences and worse when Johnny "stole" his girlfriend Linda, and later married her, which inspired him to write "The KKK Took My Baby Away" for the album Pleasant Dreams. The acronym KKK (used by the Ku Klux Klan) is only a metaphor for something exaggerated about Johnny Ramone who was politically conservative, Nazism and Hitler loved and came from a wealthy family. As for political views were diametrically opposed, Joey being a left-liberal while Johnny was very conservative. Never resolved their differences. One of Joey's dreams was to make the Ramones in Rock Hall of Fame, when this happened, 2002, Joey had died. He never saw his dream fulfilled. In 2002 he released his solo album "Do not Worry About Me", with a remarkable cover of Louis Armstrong, What a Wonderful World to their punk style with some Sex Pistols bases (in particular the song "Pretty Vacant") by The Clash ("I'm so bored with the USA") and The Who. He died of lymphoma in the New York-Presbyterian Hospital on April 15, 2001. At the time of his death heard "In A Little While" by U2. From that moment during the concert, Bono says the song was about the hangover caused by a lack of love (lovestruck hangover "in English) but Joey turned it into a gospel song. Apparently he had had lymphoma for a long time, the mid-90s already seen him appear in a New York hospital that specializes in lymphoma. On November 30, 2003, was given the name of Joey Ramone Place on a street in New York City. It's in the same block where the Ramones began at the famous club CBGB. His birthday is celebrated in many rock clubs, in New York being invited his mother and brother. On January 28, 2007 Joey's mother, Charlotte Lesher, who inspired and supported musically Joey during his career as a musician, dies of a heart attack aged 80.
