The son of an officer in the Indian Army, he served in the Indian Army out of Sandhurst, 30 August 1934 and joined the 4th Prince of Wales's Own Gurkha Rifles [1857-1947]. When Lentaigne replaces General Orde Wingate - died in a plane crash March 24, 1944 - at the head of the forces Chindits, Masters is a captain. Promoted to captain and lieutenant-colonel temporarily, he assumed command of the 111th Indian Brigade during the second Burma campaign. It is decorated with the Distinguished Service Order October 5, 1944, Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) January 17, 1946 and received a citation September 19, 1946. After the war he served briefly as headquarters in New Delhi (India) before becoming an instructor at the Staff College at Camberley. Commander, he retired on 1 January 1949 with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He moved to the United States and became a writer. Most of his works are subject India. Two of his novels have been made display on the screen: Bhowani Junction (1952) in 1956 by George Cukor, with the main role in Ava Gardner and The Deceivers (1952) by Nicholas Meyer in 1988 with Pierce Brosnan.
