Karl Lagerfeld

Karl (Otto) Lagerfeld (September 10, 1933, Hamburg, Germany) is widely recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers of the second half of the twentieth century. His father, Christian Lagerfeld, was a member of a family of Swedish bankers and made his fortune by introducing powdered milk in Germany. His mother, Elizabeth, was German. Lagerfeld was his only child, was born 10 years after the couple married, when her mother was 42 and his father 60. He has several half siblings from previous marriages of their parents. Karl Lagerfeld emigrated to Paris at age 14. In 1955, at age 17, Lagerfeld was awarded a position at Pierre Balmain, after winning a contest sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat. He made a name as an independent creator, working with a variety of different fashion houses that include names like Chloe, Fendi and Chanel. Moreover, in 80 he founded his own label, called Lagerfeld, which launched perfumes and clothing lines. In the early 1990s employed a star nude and erotic Italian films to luciesen his black and white collection for Fendi. He has produced legendary pieces as a bathing suit with sparkling water gushing in the front, a dress imitating a car with a radiator grille and bumpers, and a host of eccentric hats. Recently, Lagerfeld collaborated with the Swedish fashion company H & M. On November 12, 2004, H & M offered a limited number of different brands in selected shopping centers for women and men. Just two days after having supplied the mall, H & M had announced that all items had been exhausted. Lagerfeld has said he is not afraid to work with most popular companies from getting on your image. Is also a photographer and produced "Visionaire 23: The Emperor's New Clothes", a series of nude photographs of South African model David Miller. He received the 1996 Award of the German culture of photography. Lagerfeld is also famous for a dramatic transformation of his body when he lost about 36 kilos in one year. "I suddenly wanted to dress differently, wear clothes designed by Hedi Slimane," he said. "But these fashions, modeled by children very, very slim and not men my age-required to lose at least 36 kilos. It took me exactly thirteen months." The diet was created specially for Lagerfeld by Dr. Jean-Claude Houdret, became a book called "The Karl Lagerfeld Diet" ("The Karl Lagerfeld Diet").
