Prof. Dr. Jean Baptiste Keune (November 27, 1858 in Trier, Trier January 12, 1937) was a teacher, museum director, librarian and archaeologist. After his death, many streets and schools bear his name in Trier. Jean-Baptiste Keune studied ancient Marburg, Bonn and Vienna. From 1889-1892, he worked as a teacher and Trier as a volunteer in the Provinzialmuseum. In 1883 he left teaching in higher education at the college of Montigny-les-Metz, until 1889. Already in 1896, he became director of the museum of Metz. In 1906, Keune receives the title of professor. During the First World War, he was a delegate to the protection, artificial, between Meuse and Vosges. Only after the war he left the museum in 1918. He was expelled in 1919 by the French administration. In subsequent years, Keune Provinzialmuseum becomes honorary member of Trier and the Society for Research Utiltes Trier (GfnF) he was a member since 1891. After 1923, the archaeologist responsible for the library. From 1926 to his death, Keune is a member of the Steering Committee GfnF. Since 1929, he was an honorary member of the Association of Trier.
