One of the most important filmmakers of Hollywood, Sydney Pollack, died in Los Angeles for 73 years of a cancer victim who had been diagnosed only ten months ago. Pollack reached its peak in 1985 when he won two Oscars, for best director and best film, 'Out of Africa', a film which is still remembered by many. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, on July 1, 1934, Sydney Pollack began his acting career in the 50s, but later directed such films as "The Electric Horseman ',' The firm 'or' Dance, Dance cursed ' , with whom he gave the final leap to fame in 1969. However, it was during the 70s and 80s when most successful hit. His film 'Toosi', 1982, opted to ten Academy Awards, but ultimately only won the best actress. After his Oscar for 'Out of Africa', Pollack withdrew, only to reappear in 1995 with 'Sabrina and his love' and later in 1999 with 'Random Hearts'. He also served as producer for other directors such as Ang Lee and Anthony Minghella, in films like 'Sense and Sensibility (1995),' The English Patient '(1996) or' Cold Mountain '(2004). Sydney Pollack was also honored in 2002 with an honorary Golden Leopard award for lifetime achievement at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Married since 1958 to actress Claire Griswold, Sydney Pollack had three children. His last appearance on screen was in the movie 'Made of Honor', which is currently in theaters in the United States. It also foresees the upcoming release of 'The Reader' and 'Margaret', the last two productions in which he has participated Sydney Pollack.
