This section explains how to reduce a database using the Object Explorer of SQL Server Management Studio. The database can not be reduced to a size less than the minimum size of the database. The minimum size of a database corresponds to the size specified when created or when the latter view size explicit during a resize operation, including through DBCC SHRINKFILE. For example, the smallest size that could have a database of 10 MB and 100 MB initially before discount, even if all the data it contains have been removed, is 10 MB after reduction. If you wish, you can activate the checkbox Reorganize files before releasing unused space. If you do, you must specify a maximum value in free space in files after reduction. Selecting this option is equivalent to specifying a value target_percent when running DBCC SHRINKDATABASE. The deletion of this option is equivalent to the DBCC SHRINKDATABASE using the option TRUNCATEONLY. TRUNCATEONLY reduces the file to the last extent allocated without moving data. By default, this option is disabled. Enter the maximum percentage of remaining space that you want to leave in the files of the database after reducing it. Values are between 0 and 99. This option is available only when Reorganize files before releasing unused space is selected.
