A stylus or style (from Latin stylus, plural: Stilian, taken in turn from Greek ??????) is a writing instrument. The term is also used to describe a computer accessory, usually of PDA or smartphones. Usually refers to a narrow elongated staff, similar to a modern ballpoint pen. Many styluses are heavily curved to facilitate handling. The styli were used first by the ancient Mesopotamians to write in cuneiform, were usually made from reeds that grew on the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and marshes and to Egypt where the Egyptians used styluses from sliced reeds with tips sharp. Cuneiform writing was completely based on wedge-shaped mark that was the end of a cane cut when pressed on a clay tablet, hence the name "cuneiform" from Latin cuneus = wedge. " The styli were used since classical times until the nineteenth century to write on wax tablets (tabulae), which were used for different purposes, from secretaries notes to the recording of accounts. Some wax tablets have been preserved in waterlogged deposits, for example in the Roman fort of Vindolanda on Hadrian's Wall. One end of these styles was pointed for writing and the other was crushed and wide to clear. The stilettos are still used today in various arts and crafts. Situations such as: rubbing of letters in the method of transferring dry layout designs on a new surface with carbon paper and embossed (stamped typo) manually. The stylus is also used to record on materials like metal or clay. Today, the term often refers stylus to input method commonly used with personal digital assistants (PDAs) and graphic tablets. In this method, a stylus that secretes no ink touches a touch screen, replacing the finger, to prevent the oil from the hands of one is transferred to the screen, or produce strokes in a computer screen, respectively. The stylus is also used with the modern models of the GP2X handheld console and the Nintendo DS, which has two screens, being the lower tender. A stylus can also be used for printing on a recording sheet metal or smoked glass. This method can be used in various instruments instead of a pen to record because it has the advantage of being able to operate over a wide range of temperatures, does not stick or dry prematurely, and has very little friction in comparison with other methods. These characteristics were useful in certain types of seismometers and primitive barographs employee records to determine the altitude of gliders. The word stiletto style along with the word comes from the Latin word stylus meaning: "a stake, a pointed instrument used by the Romans, to write on wax tablets." [1] The pronunciation was influenced by the Greek word ?????? which means column or pillar. According to the Dictionary of London of Greek and Roman Antiquities, 1875, a stylus is "an object like a pillar tapering architectural design, a metal instrument that resembles a pencil in size and shape, used for writing or recording impressions on tablets wax.Means. An instrument of iron (Ov. Met. IX.521, Martial, XIV.21), which resembles a pencil in size and shape, used for writing on wax tablets (Plaut. Baccha. IV.4.63; Plin. HN XXXIV.14). At one end was sharpened to achieve a tip to scrape the wax characters (Quintil. i.1 ยง 27), while the other end, flat and circular served to make the surface of the tablets was soft again, and to erase what was written. Therefore, pour stilum means clear, and therefore correct, as in the famous precept SAEP stilum pouring (Hor. Sat. 01/10/1972; Cic. Verr. II.41)..
